  • Aramis Knight to Attend 2013 San Diego Comic Con

Aramis Knight to Attend 2013 San Diego Comic Con

Since Nancy Kirkpatrick, worldwide marketing president for Summit, said in an interview a couple of months ago that she would be turning her focus from Twilight to Ender’s Game, it’s safe to say that the company is planning a decent if not huge presence at this year’s San Diego Comic Con. The film will undoubtedly be a huge draw for attendees of the con and so it would make sense for a full trailer to be unveiled in Hall H.

Still, it’s all up in the air with regards to who from the cast will be attending. But thanks to Aramis Knight, we now know that we’ll at least be seeing Bean in attendance at this year’s con!

    Aramis-SDCC

The young actor tweeted yesterday that he’ll be at the next Con. Since professional badges for SDCC 2013 went on sale today, hopefully we’ll see more confirmations soon.

If you plan on attending SDCC for the first time this year, don’t forget that you must have a valid CCI Member ID before you can attempt to purchase a badge when the sale starts in early spring. To get your Member ID, click here.

Moises Arias, who plays Bonzo Madrid in Ender’s Game, attended the Sundance premiere of his movie Toy’s House, where he plays a young man named Biaggio.

Joe Toy, on the verge of adolescence, finds himself increasingly frustrated by his single father, Frank’s, attempts to manage his life. Declaring his freedom once and for all, he escapes to a clearing in the woods with his best friend, Patrick, and a strange kid named Biaggio and announces that they are going to build a house there—free from responsibility and parents. Once their makeshift abode is finished, the three young men find themselves masters of their own destiny, alone in the woods.

The movie, directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts, premiered on January 19 and will show four more times at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah. View the schedule here.

Check out this cool still of Nonso Anozie (Sergeant Dap) in the History Channel’s upcoming mini series The Bible.

The epic cast for this epic series is long; but look for Nonso Anozie as Samson (as in the story of Samson and Delilah) – the Israelite who was granted supernatural strength by God (his strength is in his hair) in order to combat his enemies and perform heroic feats like wrestling a lion, and slaying an entire army (photo above); and also Keith David provides voice-overs throughout.

The Bible will premiere on March 3, 2013. View the trailer below:

    Ender's World

Last June, publisher Smart Pop Books sent out a call for fan questions to be submitted to Orson Scott Card for their anthology Ender’s World, which is due for release this coming April. Some of you posted your questions here on EnderWiggin.net while others posted on the Smart Pop website.

A good number of those questions were answered in the book, but without names attached and one fan is trying to change that by working with Smart Pop to collect names to include with the questions. If you were one of the individuals that posted a question and you posted under a pseudonym, please email EC Spencer at wiggine@gmail.com using the email address you used when posting your question and give her your name. • The New York Times Talks ‘Ender’s Game’ with OddLot Co-Founder Gigi Pritzker

The New York Times Talks ‘Ender’s Game’ with OddLot Co-Founder Gigi Pritzker

    Gigi-Pritzker

Today, the New York Times published an extensive article giving us a bit of background on OddLot Entertainment, the production company responsible for finally making the film adaptation of Ender’s Game a reality, by talking with one of its co-founders Gigi Pritzker.

During years of development at Warner over the last decade, Wolfgang Petersen, who planned to direct “Ender’s Game,” referred to its protagonist Wiggin Ender as a science fiction equivalent of Antoine Doinel in François Truffaut’s “400 Blows.” The depth of the lead character is something Ms. Pritzker sought to preserve as OddLot began to carve a film story from what has now become a series of books.

She joined Lynn Hendee and Robert Chartoff, who were supposed to produce the film for Warner, along with Mr. Card and others. They hired Gavin Hood, the filmmaker behind both the South African teen crime drama “Tsotsi” and “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” as writer and director. OddLot bought out the work done earlier for Warner, but Mr. Hood essentially started from scratch, ultimately creating a story that is built around a young actor, Asa Butterfield, who is 15, but is intended, like “Hunger Games,” to attract viewers well into their 30s.

“I think ‘Hunger Games’ cracked the code,” Ms. Pritzker said of a shift in film culture that has since made “Ender’s Game” one of Hollywood’s most closely watched projects.

The article goes on to talk about her passion for the project and that being the reason it finally went into production.

Mainly, Ms. Pritzker said, the aim has been to create a working business, rather than simply to underwrite movies from a family fortune. In putting together “Ender’s Game,” for instance, OddLot joined Digital Domain in providing about 75 percent of the budget, some of that offset by advance foreign sales, while Summit contributed the balance.

In a telephone interview last week, Robert G. Friedman, co-chairman of the Lionsgate motion picture group, credited Ms. Pritzker with having spotted the potential in “Ender’s Game” at a time when most of Hollywood had given up on it.

“A lot of these things sort of hide in plain sight,” Mr. Friedman said. “It takes somebody’s passion to unearth them.”

It’s certainly nice to hear that the filmmakers seem to have a deep appreciation for the story. Does this give you guys hope that the film adaptation will be a success come this November?

  • New Quote: Gavin Hood on Ender

New Quote: Gavin Hood on Ender

    Gavin-Hood

Although I haven’t confirmed this yet myself since my new Entertainment Weekly issue hasn’t yet arrived, the mobile version of the January 18 issue included a new quote from director Gavin Hood about Ender Wiggin.

Ender grows into a powerful (but deeply conflicted) leader whose every action is monitored. “He is a victim of adult manipulation,” says director Gavin Hood, “but also a victim of his own ego.”

Sounds like Gavin Hood has a really great grasp of the depth of character of Ender. Let’s hope he’s able to take his interpretations of the character and translate them accurately on screen!

  • Vote for ‘Ender’s Game’ in MTV’s 2013 Movie Brawl

Vote for ‘Ender’s Game’ in MTV’s 2013 Movie Brawl

It’s 2013 and MTV has officially started the initial voting round for their 2013 Movie Brawl. You can vote multiple times for all your favorite movies (and over and over). Ender’s Game is on their list of 40 exciting movies coming out in 2013, so be sure to go vote and help get the movie into the next round of 16.

Voting in this first round ends on January 14. After that, there will be brackets for the movies to face off and eventually one will emerge as the winner!

Just to warn folks, movies with the most dedicated fans tend to come out on top. For example, I think Cosmopolis won last year based solely on the fact that the Robert Pattison fans descended on the poll and boosted it up to win. Still, it would be fun to see Ender’s Game in the brackets! It’s currently ranked 26, so go vote here!

  • Viola Davis on the ‘Ender’s Game’ Cast

Viola Davis on the ‘Ender’s Game’ Cast

    Viola Davis

In an exclusive video of an audio interview with Viola Davis (Major Anderson), the site Fangirlish talked with Viola Davis briefly about her thoughts on the Ender’s Game cast.

When asked how she feels about working with young actors, Davis said that she loves working with them. “I was out of touch. That’s why I like working with young people. They keep you in touch, they keep you relevant, almost. Which is what I love.”

She briefly mentions her thoughts on working with Harrison Ford and how much of a fan of his she is. “[…] I thought it was cool cause I was working with Harrison Ford. I love Harrison Ford. And every scene I wanted to tell him, “I love you,” but I couldn’t because I’d look like a geek once again.”

Davis is set to star in two young adult franchises this year with Beautiful Creatures and Ender’s Game.

“I love big franchise movies. The only thing that would be better is being in a movie that was like Avatar or Aliens where I got to beat the crap out of somebody and wear cute outfits.”

According to Fangirlish, she also commented on Asa Butterfield and Aramis Knight, though it’s not on the video.

She remarked how great the kids from Ender’s Game were, and how Aramis Knight and Asa Butterfield were such good boys.
