GIVEAWAY: Ender’s Game Easter Egg Showdown

On Easter Sunday, I decorated four eggs with the Ender’s Game army logos and until today have been simply letting them die slowly in my fridge. Watch the video below to hear how you can enter to win one of three Ender’s Game mini poster’s from WonderCon.

I have nine posters to give away in total and will be posting two more contests later on so that you guys have three chances to win a poster from EnderWiggin.net.

To enter this contest, simply comment on this post and tell me who you think will win the following battles in Egg Battle School:

    • Dragon Army Egg vs Salamander Army Egg
    • Asp Army Egg vs Rat Army Egg
    • Bonus Round – Final Army Egg Winner

I actually decided to change things up from the video a bit and for every correct answer you post, you get one entry. Make three correct guesses and you get three entries.

On Sunday, I will post the video of the egg battles so you guys can see who emerged victorious, then draw three lucky winners from the pool of entries. The winners will be announced at the same time of the battle video. Limit one poster per person. This contest is open worldwide and will end on Sunday April 7, 2013 at noon Eastern time.

  • Digital Domain Abandoning Efforts to Digitally Age Down Asa Butterfield

Digital Domain Abandoning Efforts to Digitally Age Down Asa Butterfield

    Digital Domain

Digital Domain, the company working on the special effects for the Ender’s Game movie, released a statement today announcing that a previously top secret project to digitally age down actor Asa Butterfield to appear six years old in the film has been abandoned.

The project, which was internally named Project AAA (Asa Anti-Aging) by staffers, was started in response to several angry fans posting on Facebook arguing that there was no way that then-14 year-old Butterfield looked to be the age of six, the age of Ender Wiggin in the books.

Asa-YoungThe goal was to completely digitally render Asa Butterfield’s height, facial features, and stature to resemble Butterfield at a much younger age. His family provided photos of the actor from his primary school days to assist the team in any way they could.

In the end, the efforts proved to be too time consuming and with so much manpower put into Project AAA, efforts on other areas of the film fell to the wayside. As many fans may have noticed, no trailer has yet been released for the movie.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, one anonymous staff member could only say, “It pains me to say this, but fans will simply have to use their imagination and pretend that Asa is six years-old.” In an effort to alleviate any fan furor over the issue, Summit has stated that they will be aging up all the other characters and changing the name of Battle School to Battle University.

“It is our hope that if all the other soldiers are supposed to be college age, Ender will then by default look exceptionally younger,” tweeted Summit.

It’s unclear at this point just how fans will react to this news. What’s your take?

UPDATE: Just an FYI that I made this whole story up for April Fool’s Day. 😛

  • Happy Birthday, Asa Butterfield!

    Happy Birthday, Asa Butterfield!

Today is April 1st, which means it’s time to wish Asa Butterfield, our Ender Wiggin, a very happy 16th birthday! For the occasion, I have a special cake.

    Dragon-Army-Cake

Hope you have had a fun-filled birthday and that your year is a fantastic one!

Before anyone thinks I’m a little weird for making a real cake for someone on the other side of the planet, I should note that this cake will soon shift from a cake for Asa into a cake for me, since I share a birthday with Asa. And since I’m obviously a huge fan of Ender’s Game, a Dragon Army cake will be a fun thing to blow out tonight when my family comes over. 🙂

You can see a bunch of very cool photos gathered up by Ender News (including one from me!) here.

Here’s a closer look at the dragon:

  • Happy Easter from EnderWiggin.net!

    Happy Easter from EnderWiggin.net!

Happy Easter, Launchies! Hope everyone is having a fun day today. My family dyed eggs earlier and I reserved four for myself to decorate Ender’s Game style!

    Enders-Game-Easter1

I made one for each army logo released so far, Dragon, Salamander, Rat, and Asp. I had some printouts from making buttons and so I had it in front of me while I sketched into the eggs with a pencil then I colored it in with a sharpie pen. Here’s a look at each egg individually:

    Dragon:

    Dragon-Army-Egg

    Salamander:

    Salamander-Egg

    Rat:

    Rat-Army-Egg

    Asp:

We probably can’t eat these because I used a sharpie, but it was still worth it. We’re about to go outside and have our hunt with the kids and I’ll make sure I hide these well. Whoever finds Dragon Army gets a chocolate bunny!

  • Harrison Ford Calls ‘Ender’s Game’ a “Very Ambitious Movie”

Harrison Ford Calls ‘Ender’s Game’ a “Very Ambitious Movie”

Harrison Ford sat down recently to talk with ET Online at a press junket for his movie ’42’ (which is out April 12) about his multitude of upcoming projects, calling his brief experience on the set of Anchorman 2 “bi-zarre” and hilariously referring to Christina Applegate as “Applesauce girl”. He talked very briefly about Ender’s Game:

Ender’s Game is coming up, you’re sort of returning to the sci-fi genre. How was that experience?

Very interesting. It’s a very ambitious movie and I was very interested in the opportunity to be part of it. The character I play is interesting to me. I haven’t seen anything much. I think it could be great.

The best part of the video comes when he’s asked about Star Wars VII. Ford pulls a zipper across his mouth and proceeds to finish the interview as though his lips are totally sealed. Last year, Ford filmed ’42’ right after wrapping Ender’s Game.

  • Official Ender’s Game Website IF-Sentinel.com Debuts Splash Page

Official Ender’s Game Website IF-Sentinel.com Debuts Splash Page

Last week, the official Ender’s Game movie Twitter account began tweeting and in its profile was the URL IF-Sentinel.com, which simply re-directed to Summit’s website.

The site now appears to be live, featuring a splash page. Any speculation on what is to come for this site? Sounds like we’ll be getting some cool International Fleet bulletins much like what Earth citizens would read on the nets.

    IF-Sentinel

The IF logo (nice to have a face-front image of it!) is on the left with the phrase “The next invasion in imminent. Stay informed.” In the background, you can see the words IF_FLEET_DIAGRAM, which leads one to believe that the photos in the middle top and bottom are images of IF ships.

In any case, the site looks pretty cool! It links to the movie’s social media, including a G+ page that I had no idea existed. 🙂

    Enders-Game-Teaser-Poster-Hi-Res

Thanks to Summit, we’ve got a hi-res version of the teaser poster, just click the above image to go to the full size file.

In addition to the hi-res poster, they sent the new version of the official synopsis for the movie.

In the near future, a hostile alien race called the Formics have attacked Earth. If not for the legendary heroics of International Fleet Commander Mazer Rackham (Ben Kingsley), all would have been lost. In preparation for the next attack, the highly esteemed Colonel Hyrum Graff (Harrison Ford) and the International Military are training only the best young minds to find the future Mazer.

Ender Wiggin (Asa Butterfield), a shy but strategically brilliant boy, is recruited to join the elite.  Arriving at Battle School, Ender quickly and easily masters increasingly difficult challenges and simulations, distinguishing himself and winning respect amongst his peers. Ender is soon ordained by Graff as the military’s next great hope, resulting in his promotion to Command School.  Once there, he’s trained by Mazer Rackham himself to lead his fellow soldiers into an epic battle that will determine the future of Earth and save the human race.

Based on the best-selling, award winning novel, ENDER’S GAME is an epic adventure which stars Asa Butterfield, Hailee Steinfeld, Ben Kingsley, Viola Davis, with Abigail Breslin and Harrison Ford.
    We’re 219 days away from Ender’s Game!
