‘Ender’s Game’ Trailer to Make Theatrical Debut with ‘Elysium’

    EG-Elysium

While you guys are probably watching the trailer over and over, there’s something about seeing it on the big screen that makes it feel so much more intense and real.

We’ve confirmed with Summit that the Ender’s Game trailer will be making its theatrical debut with Elysium, out this weekend on August 9. Keep in mind that trailers will vary from theater to theater and in my experience, people rarely get the trailer you want by going to a midnight release.

    Good luck!

You may have seen me gushing about it on Twitter. On EnderCast, I may have talked about how it made me cry and scream and tremble like an idiot. The “new footage” at Comic Con was a trailer, not a clip. That trailer is now set to make its online debut next Tuesday, August 6, 2013.

Are you ready for it? It’s got explosions, Formics, the Great Invasion, Valentine, Ender, arguments between the teachers, and much more. And you’ll have seen it in less than 4 days.

    Posters

This post is just a reminder to folks that the Ender’s Game trailer will be making its theatrical debut with Star Trek Into Darkness. And while this can vary from theater to theater, it’s technically supposed to be there!

And a bit of interesting news to go with this reminder: Star Trek Into Darkness is now being released a full day early! Today when I bought my IMAX tickets, I went to double check the date of my tickets and found that they were for a Thursday show. At 7:15 pm.

I thought I was cracking up because I could have sworn it was coming out May 17. Plus, May 16 is a Thursday. I thought maybe Fandango had a glitch.

Turns out, Paramount really is releasing the movie a day early.

Recently, Paramount announced that the general, non-IMAX, release of Star Trek Into Darkness has actually been moved up to May 16. (The IMAX release remains at Wednesday, May 15, at 8pm.) Paramount’s Wednesday night IMAX showings were sold out and the studio wanted to give fans who couldn’t get tickets to the advance IMAX showings a chance to see it.

It’s a good thing I checked my tickets because it it would have sucked to show up with my family to a Friday show only to be told they were for the day before. So how about it launchies? Are you going to see Star Trek early? I’m keeping the trailer as  a surprise for my mom. She’ll seriously flip out and I’m looking forward to it! Hopefully I still have my arm when it’s over though, she might wrench it off in excitement…

Good luck getting the trailer! If you want to buy tickets online before you go, Fandango has a 20% off special right now off gift cards.

  • About That Trailer Ending…

    About That Trailer Ending…

    Spoiler
Boy, what a day. My head hurts, I still feel like I have earbuds jammed into my ears, and my back is killing me, but what a fantastic day it was anyway!

So now that we’ve all seen it and people are reacting, one of the most common complaints I’ve seen online is that Summit did that dastardly thing us moviegoers hate so much: they ruined the ending of the movie.

Match to the planet. Boom boom!
Match to the planet. Boom boom!

I’ll be honest, this was my initial kneejerk reaction too. Why did they reveal that? Why blow up the climax right now? And then I came to my senses.

The only reason anyone thinks this is a spoiler is because you’ve read the book. When you think about it, there’s really nothing in that scene to indicate that Ender knows exactly what he’s doing.

In the book, Ender is using what he is told is a very sophisticated simulator. He revels in its controls and excels in commanding his soldiers to do what he feels must be done to beat his enemy. And as we all know, to Ender, his enemies in these “simulations” aren’t the buggers on the screen. It’s Mazer. It’s Graff. It’s the teachers.

In the very first interview we got with Gavin Hood way back in December when the first still came out, he was asked about the ending by Grady Smith of Entertainment Weekly:

To that end, the director promises that the book’s dark ending (which I won’t spoil here) has remained fully in tact. “That ending — and the complex moral questions that it raises — is one of the reasons why I love the book, ” says Hood. “I promise you that it is very much there.”

Ender-NowI remain confident that the trailer is in fact spoiler free. The only reason it appears to be a spoiler is because we know what it really means.

That doesn’t mean that after that explosion, Ender doesn’t then turn to see a crowd of cheering military brass and then learns that his worst nightmares have come to pass.

As much as I love the character of Ender, I think we’ll still have to see see the pain he suffers as a result of that intense last command.

Anyone going around ranting to people about how the ending spoils the movie is… actually spoiling the movie. So stop it already!
