Ender’s Game Cast Watch #11
Hey peeps,
I’ve been on vacation in the wilderness (read: visiting my family), which meant no stalking teenagers or posting random stuff for the obsessed. And while it was very relaxing, I’m happy to be back and ready to post some Ender’s Game cast news!
Let’s start with Abigail Breslin. Between tweeting about Pumpkin Spice Latte and working really hard on her newly established Tumblr, she found the time to both go to the premiere of the One Direction movie as well as appear at the Toronto Film Festival to promote her new star-studded movie August: Osage County. The movie is based on a play by Tracy Letts; Meryl Streep and Benedict Cumberbatch star among other great names. See Abbie at the premiere below and check out 20+ pics of her at the August: Osage County press conference HERE on JustJared.
Asa Butterfield has been busy shooting (and wrapping) his new movie X Plus Y while Asanators have been swamping Tumblr with pics from the shoot. Here are a few choice ones found on various Instagram accounts of the X Plus Y cast and such by Tumblr users ceolwaerc, elinabfb, asabutterfielded and asaisthebest.
After the movie wrapped, it was straight back to London, where Asa is now attending Sixth Form College (note: that’s still regular school, not college in the American sense of the word), presumably at his old school, Stoke Newington in Hackney/London. His GCSE results were pretty good, so Ender’s academic future looks bright and rosy.
In other news, Asa has just struck up a Twitter friendship with Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams. Shame that I can’t think of a Song of Ice and Fire role I could see Asa in. Any ideas?
Between Comic Con, shooting X Plus Y and getting ready for advanced schooling, Asa seems to have found the time to squeeze in a photoshoot with Teen Vogue as well. Is that Beetlejuice with a hat? Check out the making-of video HERE.
By the way, the cover model for this very issue of Teen Vogue is none other than Ender’s Game’s Hailee Steinfeld. Watch the video of her cover shoot below.
In addition to working as a cover model and reminding people on Twitter that Ender’s Game is less than two months away, Hailee is also promoting her other new movie, the newest adaptation of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. While she was in Rome for some touristy stuff about a week ago, she posted this pic of herself and two of her cast mates with a countdown leading up to the Romeo and Juliet release date. It’s only about a month away, guys, so now is the time to brush up on your Elizabethan English!
For Suraj Partha, the past two weeks were basically filled with preparing for the SATs, talking to Crystal and Kelly on EnderCast, and being a musician. He posted not only one, but two new videos on Youtube! Check out his covers of Ed Sheeran’s “Lego House” and “Wait for Me” by Kings of Leon HERE and HERE. And in case you have a little time to spare, Suraj’s Youtube channel is awesome! Check it out for various vids of Suraj performing privately and publicly HERE.
In addition, he stepped in last minute to play Beethoven’s 9th at the Walt Disney Concert Hall with a youth orchestra on August 26. Just like that. Sure. I can play that kind of music on short notice. No problem at all.
Speaking about music, Jimmy Jax Pinchak posted a new video of himself and his band playing Muddy Waters’ “Trouble No More” on facebook. If you like Blues, here you go:
Finally, Aramis Knight and Brandon Soo Hoo seem to have new jobs. Brandon recently tweeted about some work on the new TV series Instant Mom, while Aramis seems to have become a clothing line model for Barnabas.
Phew, that was quite a bit of stuff. Check back here for more random cast news next week. See ya!

Ender’s Game Cast Watch #5
This past week had half the cast in a flurry over San Diego Comic Con. It looks like almost everone is attending!
According to the official Comic Con page, Suraj and Aramis as well as Jimmy Pinchak, Conor Carroll, and Cameron Gaskins are going to sign autographs on Saturday around noon (drawing of line tickets is around 9am), while the Thursday panelists (sans Harrison Ford) are scheduled to sign on Thursday morning. Good planning, Comic Con! It’s not as if the Ender’s Game fans will be waiting in line in front of Hall H at that time!
What I find interesting is that Brandon Soo Hoo, Khylin Rhambo and Moises Arias (both unconfirmed) seem to be going to San Diego, but aren’t part of the official line-up. What’s with that? Are they just going to hang out around the premises? Or is there some secret project they are involved in? (Ender’s Game Experience, anyone?)
Hailee Steinfeld and Asa Butterfield are also preparing for the big event. But while for Hailee things are going according to plan, Asa had to endure a few setbacks (read tweets from bottom to top) before he arrived safely in LA this morning.
According to his Twitter, he is going to meet up with his friend and Hugo co-star Cloe Moretz while he’s there.Earlier last week, when things were still a bit less hectic, Asa enjoyed a beautiful day in Sheffield, while Aramis went for some recreational Lasertag. Be careful, Aramis, your Bean is showing!
On a personal note, I’m happy to announce that two of my favorite fandoms are finally converging on each other, as Suraj Partha has become addicted to Doctor Who! I know your pain, Suraj. Now go spread the word! -
Ender’s Game Cast Watch #3
I’m a bit late this week, but to be fair, there wasn’t that much to report about our young cast as far as social media announcements go – up until today, that is. Let’s have the good news first: Brandon Soo Hoo graduated High School. Congratulations, Brandon!
Also, Jimmy “Jax” Pinchak announced today via twitter that he will be joining castmates Asa Butterfield, Hailee Steinfeld, Abigail Breslin and Harrison Ford at Comic Con.
Meanwhile, Abigail Breslin – again breaking the record for most tweets per day – has been alternating sleeping on the couch (due to a bugger infestation of her room, no less) and celebrating half-Christmas with glittery wintery images on Instagram, while Asa Butterfield has been relaxing with his family in beautiful, sunny Greece.
Aramis Knight, on the other hand, has made an effort to make the world a better place in this years annual “One Child At A Time Celebrity Basketball Game” on June 23. For him, and I’m sure for many of the spectators, it was a dream come true.
Finally, Khylin Rhambo has announced that he is changing his name. Personally, I welcome the change, as I’m never quite sure if I’m spelling “Rhambo” correctly.

Geek Legacy Interviews Brandon Soo Hoo
Geek Legacy, who put out a request for questions for actor Brandon Soo Hoo back in February, got to interview him and recently published the transcript. The entire interview focused on his involvement with Ender’s Game and fans eager to hear any news about the film get to hear a few interesting tidbits.
A fan of the book for the last five years since an old friend lent him her copy, Soo Hoo says that one of favorite parts of the book include the mind game. He insisted that director Gavin Hood took a lot of care to keep accurate to the book, “Though, due to the PG-13 rating, some of the more graphic content was toned down.”
He also mentions Ender’s dreams during their rigorous schedule on Eros.
GL: What scene(s) from the movie are you most excited for us all to see?
B: The dream sequence scenes and battle room scenes are both highly anticipated. Both are going to be filled with dazzling special effects, so I’m looking forward to see how those came out. When asked what he’s looking forward to the most in the coming months, he admits that while he really wants to go to Comic Con, he’s really just excited to finally see the film.
As fellow book fans, I’m sure we can all relate to that!

Brandon Soo Hoo Talks Fly Molo with J-14
J-14 Magazine recently spoke with 17 year-old actor Brandon Soo Hoo, who plays Fly Molo in Ender’s Game. Here’s an excerpt from their exclusive interview:
J-14: How would you describe your character in ‘Ender’s Game?’ How are you like him? How are you different than him?
Brandon Soo Hoo: My character, Fly Molo, is a veteran soldier in Battle School. At first, he is introduced as Bonzo’s lackey, but he eventually comes to recognize Ender as the superior commander. I can definitely relate to Fly’s second-in-command role. A leader will always feel the majority of the pressure in a high-stakes situation, whereas the lieutenant is usually allowed to function below the radar. However, I’d say that unlike Fly, I would have a bit of trouble putting up with Bonzo. I have mild authority issues.
J-14: What was the most challenging scene for you to film? Why?
Brandon: The most difficult to film was probably the zero grav close up shots. Core body strength is the key to appearing weightless and I don’t think I had enough of it. Imagine flexing every inch of your body for five-minute intervals while wearing several layers of motorcycles attire. Now, rep that around twenty times. Now put a camera on your face, say some lines, and try not to look like you’re dying.
J-14: What drew you to this movie?
Brandon: When I was 11, my teacher gave me my own copy of ‘Ender’s Game‘ (thanks, Laura). It is still among my top five favorite books of all time. It’s funny because when I was reading the book, I was thinking, “If this book is ever made into film, I hope I can work in it.” I was thinking Han Tzu, but Fly Molo works too!
With there being no Han Tzu cast, it was safe to assume that Soo Hoo’s character had become Fly Molo and Han Tzu combined, just as others we’ll likely learn about going forward. Still, it’s interesting to hear more about the “new” Fly Molo and how he begins as Bonzo’s wingman.
What do you think about this insight into the movie version of Fly Molo? And yikes, sounds like it was a really tough shoot!

Unconfirmed: Brandon Soo Hoo Cast as Fly Molo
According to a cast list on IMDB, 16 year old Brandon Soo Hoo will be taking on the role of Fly Molo, one of Ender’s toon leaders in Dragon Army.
IMDB can be edited by the general public with a paid membership, so casting on the site isn’t always reliable when it hasn’t been confirmed elsewhere, so this is still unconfirmed. In the books, Fly Molo was supposed to be of Filipino descent, so it’s possible that the casting information simply has him named as the wrong character and he’s to play Han Tzu (Hot Soup) instead, another toon leader.
A skilled martial artist of Chinese descent, Soo Hoo has done work on G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra
and Tropic Thunder
. He holds a black belt in Tae Kwon Do.
What do you think? Has he been mislabeled as Fly Molo or have the writers merged Fly Molo and Han Tzu into one character?
Update: Brandon Soo Hoo will in fact be playing Fly Molo in Ender’s Game.
