Oh god, why would you subject yourself to that torture? I'm a mommy and I'm not touching that book with a ten foot pole! lol

the things you do for love... she loved them, and I try to read most of what she does so we can discuss plotlines and stuff... it gives us something to talk about

That's an amazing sacrifice on your part. Let me know what you thought. haha

I had my husband read Earth Unaware and he actually hated it. He said the science part made no sense. Since I am science-stupid, this all went right over my head.

I guess I will have to read it, payday is tomorrow, I might just go pick it up. I wish if we purchased a paper copy of the books, we could get an E version too... would make my kindle actually get some use! That way I can leave my precious books at home where they are safe, and my kindle can come with me when I am at work or whatnot.

I just started reading through it, just found it at the library a week ago. I read it through pretty much the whole exposition, and things were just about to pick up. Interesting story/ideas so far, but I haven't had any time to read any more of it recently. It's funny though -  I'm helping a friend expand his IT business in my area and a few of my desktop computer's broke in the last week. I feel quite sympathetic towards Victor lately, one: by throwing together my own working computers with whatever random parts I can find, with a fair amount of "McGuyvering" and also, as he loses Janda, I'm losing many of my friends as they go back to college (for a while).

Then I remind myself - I am the target audience -  and it all makes sense. So I might as well pick this one up and finish it because I know when I do I probably won't put it back down until it's done. For better or for worse. I'll let you know what I think after I finish.

Earth Unaware does a great job telling a tale we have heard too little about. The Formic Wars 12 comic run were a great story and goes in depth about the First Formic War. There are some major twists that I am sure Earth Afire and Earth ??? will go even further into (in particular, the part about the camera crew and how them filming the attacks and edit them will influence the public's' perception of the "war").

The piece at the end from AWJ gives some great thoughts on writing the comics and the novels and how they expand and play off one another.

I read it very soon after it came out and loved it: Card's children (like Victor) are well-known for a reason.  halfmike makes a good point when he says that Victor is a character the reader can relate to; in many ways more so than Bean or even Ender to some extent.  As to the story, even when I read Ender's Game for the first time I was very curious as to how Earth survived the invasion in the first place, so I'm glad to have a series chronicling the invasion in a fair amount of detail.
