  • Video: Abigail Breslin in ‘Final Girl’

Video: Abigail Breslin in ‘Final Girl’

Here’s a first look at Tyler Shields’ movie ‘Final Girl’, which stars Abigail Breslin (Valentine Wiggin). It’s a trailer, yet not in a traditional sense.

Read the synopsis for the film below:

Loner Veronica is new to school, shy and vulnerable the perfect target for a group of teenage boys who lure girls into the woods to hunt and kill them for sport. It’s only after they get her alone that she turns the tables on them, escaping and revealing she’s armed and knows how to defend herself. Little do they know, Veronica is an assassin-in-training, and she’s chosen killing these boys as her final test. When the dust clears, Veronica will find out if she can be the final girl these boys ever have a chance to hurt.

Breslin plays the “final girl”, which is a horror term for the last girl that encounters the killer or killers of the movie and lives to tell the story.

  • Video: Who the Hell is Harrison Ford?

Video: Who the Hell is Harrison Ford?

TMZ caught actor Moises Arias (Bonzo) in a parking lot and presumably asked him about what he thought when he found out he’d be acting in a movie with movie legend Harrison Ford and the answer they got wasn’t exactly what they expected.

    “I don’t think I knew Harrison Ford.”

It’s always possible they asked him if he knew him personally before the film, not if he knew who he was, but the video in general is rather amusing. Despite TMZ’s shock at the fact that kids today don’t know him or don’t seem to care, my guess is that’s totally okay with Harrison Ford, who reportedly despises the diehard Star Wars fans that hound him. And really, who wouldn’t?

See Nonso Anozie as Samson in ‘The Bible’

    Samson

Check out this cool still of Nonso Anozie (Sergeant Dap) in the History Channel’s upcoming mini series The Bible.

The epic cast for this epic series is long; but look for Nonso Anozie as Samson (as in the story of Samson and Delilah) – the Israelite who was granted supernatural strength by God (his strength is in his hair) in order to combat his enemies and perform heroic feats like wrestling a lion, and slaying an entire army (photo above); and also Keith David provides voice-overs throughout.

The Bible will premiere on March 3, 2013. View the trailer below:

  • Viola Davis on the ‘Ender’s Game’ Cast

Viola Davis on the ‘Ender’s Game’ Cast

    Viola Davis

In an exclusive video of an audio interview with Viola Davis (Major Anderson), the site Fangirlish talked with Viola Davis briefly about her thoughts on the Ender’s Game cast.

When asked how she feels about working with young actors, Davis said that she loves working with them. “I was out of touch. That’s why I like working with young people. They keep you in touch, they keep you relevant, almost. Which is what I love.”

She briefly mentions her thoughts on working with Harrison Ford and how much of a fan of his she is. “[…] I thought it was cool cause I was working with Harrison Ford. I love Harrison Ford. And every scene I wanted to tell him, “I love you,” but I couldn’t because I’d look like a geek once again.”

Davis is set to star in two young adult franchises this year with Beautiful Creatures and Ender’s Game.

“I love big franchise movies. The only thing that would be better is being in a movie that was like Avatar or Aliens where I got to beat the crap out of somebody and wear cute outfits.”

According to Fangirlish, she also commented on Asa Butterfield and Aramis Knight, though it’s not on the video.

She remarked how great the kids from Ender’s Game were, and how Aramis Knight and Asa Butterfield were such good boys.

Months before he headed off to New Orleans to film Ender’s Game, Aramis Knight (Bean) filmed a short scene with Anne Hathaway in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises. 18 screencaps of Aramis from this scene have been added to the EnderWiggin.net gallery.

  • Orson Scott Card Reveals Details of ‘Ender’s Game’ Movie

Orson Scott Card Reveals Details of ‘Ender’s Game’ Movie

Thanks to an EnderWiggin.net reader, we got a tip that there are a series of videos from a book signing that Orson Scott Card did earlier this month for his book ‘Ruins‘ which was released on October 30. The signing was held at a Barnes & Noble bookstore in Orem, Utah.

In this first video, Card jokes about how he was offered a part that involved cool uniforms, but insisted that he’s improving the look of the movie by only appearing by voice as a pilot on a shuttle as Ender and Graff.

He goes on to reiterate what he said in a previous interview about how few scenes are in the movie from the book but this time says there are NO scenes from the book in the movie.

There are no scenes from the book in the movie, and there are no scenes in the movie from the book, but that’s actually not a surprise. That’s pretty much the way my scripts were too because Ender’s Game is an unfilmable book. That’s something we learned 20 years ago.

I find this particularly confusing, as if there are no scenes from the book in the movie, then what exactly is going to happen in this movie called ‘Ender’s Game‘? It certainly sounds like it follows the story. Perhaps he means that there are no lines from the book in the movie?

If you filmed every scene it would be a four and a half hour movie, and I don’t care how much you love Ender’s Game, four and a half hours is a long time to sit in a theater. We also discovered very quickly that one battle in the Battle Room is one too many. You gotta see it happening, but it’s like watching Quidditch. How exciting was that? You already know how it’s gonna come out, you just wanna see them fly around a little bit, bingo it’s over. And that’s kind of how Battle Room is. It’ll look great, but we’re not going to follow these battles closely.

Looks like I’m going to have to agree to disagree with Mr. Card on this one because I really preferred watching Quidditch over reading Quidditch! I also don’t really think that one Battle Room scene is necessarily enough to appease not just fans, but newcomers. Summit will of course want non-book fans to come to see the movie and I’m not entirely convinced that one or even no battle would make the point of Battle School clear to these viewers.

In the second part, Card talks a bit about how Harrison Ford is in person, mentioning that he’s a very shy, quiet person who goes off into a corner once the cameras are off. He goes on to talk about meeting the other kids and how they suffered doing their wire work, but ended up being in the best shape of their lives.

He touched more upon the script and how they went with Gavin’s script over his.

Here’s the thing about movie. It’s going to be different from the book. It has to be. It couldn’t be filmed the way it was, the way the book is. And so what I’m hoping is, it’s brilliant. I would love it if Gavin’s script was really good. Now I did a reading of the script that I was really proud of, but you could lose your job greenlighting a film scripted by the author. That’s just the truth. And you can’t lose your job over greenlighting a film scripted by the director. So they went with the one where nobody loses their job, whether it wins or loses.

He goes on to tell his fans to go see the movie once and if they love it, bring their friends back and if they don’t, bring their friends back to show them how awful it is. Still, he sounds confident about how things will turn out. “I am very hopeful that it’s going to be terrific.”

Later, Card takes questions from fans and the first one is actually one that I’d been dying to know as well, so it was great seeing this asked.

I read Ender’s Game back when I was 17 in the 80s. The thing that really grasped me is that in it you talk about the internet, you talk about laptops, wireless internet, chatrooms, […] and identities online. What gave you the insight?

The novel by 1985, while the internet was not open for public access yet, there were services like […] and Delphi. I had been on bulletin boards, I knew about flame wars. I mean there was all kinds of stuff like that.

Despite his answer, I still found the things he described in Ender’s Game to be very prescient in that the desks he “created” in the 80s are now the tablets of today. (not laptops imo)

  • Viola Davis: “I Did Not Read the Book”

Viola Davis: “I Did Not Read the Book”

In a recent interview with BlackFilm.com, Viola Davis talked about her most recent projects including the recently released film ‘Won’t Back Down’ and the young adult book adaptation ‘Beautiful Creatures’. She is later asked a bit about her role as Major Anderson and Davis mentions that she has not read ‘Ender’s Game’.

“I did not read the book. […] And in Ender’s Game, in the book, Major Anderson is actually a male so by the time… I just felt like this is a different character and I didn’t feel like I could learn anything from reading the book as much as I can learn something from studying the psychology of people who have come back from war and experience post-traumatic stress disorder and I felt that was much more valuable for me.”

    Watch the full video below:

What do you think about her not having read the book? Major Anderson, while a very important player in Ender’s life at the Battle School, does most of his work “behind the scenes” of the novel and so really isn’t seen by Ender very much. Still, do you think she should have read for herself the original story?

  • Nonso Anozie: ‘Ender’s Game’ Will Be Cutting Edge

Nonso Anozie: ‘Ender’s Game’ Will Be Cutting Edge

Nonso Anozie was in attendance this past Sunday at the London Film and Comic Con and spoke with RedCarpetNewsTV about ‘Ender’s Game’. He explains his role as drill sergeant Dap, “He’s a real hardass at first to Ender. Really bad guy, but at the end you really start to see there’s a reason why he’s been so hard on them.”

Anozie mentions that he still has to head back to the States to finish up some more work on the film, but mentions how much fun it was. “It’s going to have a lot of things that no one’s seen before. A lot of computer graphics, a lot of visual effects, kind of cutting edge. Stuff that nobody’s seen before.”

Makes the wait that much longer, doesn’t it? Only 478 days to go!

  • VIDEO: Asa Butterfield at the Young Hollywood Awards

VIDEO: Asa Butterfield at the Young Hollywood Awards

Red Carpet Tips has posted a brief video interview with Asa Butterfield at the Young Hollywood Awards and they talk to him about what he’s wearing and how he did his hair.

Now, some of you are probably wondering, Valentine, why are you wasting our time with this silliness? Just bear with me.

While some of you may find it totally irrelevant to be listening to Asa’s red carpet tips, what’s interesting about this video is that it’s a good way for us to hear the change in Asa’s voice and see the difference in his physique.

Most people trying to get to know Ender before the movie comes out inevitably end up watching Hugo, which was Asa’s last movie. The problem with that is that while the movie just came out last year, it was filmed in June 2010, which was a full two years ago and done when Asa was only 13.

Compare photos and you’ll see he looks very different.

The last time we posted video of an interview with Asa was in January when he attended the Critic’s Choice Awards. Compare that with how deep his voice is in that interview to the red carpet video above and you can definitely notice a difference. Compare the red carpet video with clips or interviews during the filming of Hugo and you’ll see a more obvious difference in pitch.

So just how does one get to know Asa Butterfield as he’ll be in Ender’s Game if he hasn’t done anything since the award-winning Hugo?

With red carpet fashion report videos, of course. Asa looks like he’d like to be anywhere else in the world than talking hair gel and clothes with the reporter, but that just makes the video that much cuter. His advice for young actors?

“Get your mum to dress you.”

MTV’s Josh Horowitz Talks ‘Ender’s Game’ with Bobby Cohen

MTV’s Josh Horowitz recently caught up with film producer Bobby Cohen, who is working with Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Ortiz on Ender’s Game and got him to talk a bit about the set.

“There is a NASA stage where they literally used to build the rockets for the space shuttle that is now actually a sound stage,” he said. “They will be spending 65 some odd days about 45 minutes from here on a big giant set. So that’s going well.”
