    THE MOUSE WILL BE THERE!

Finally some information on whether or not and in what way the Mind Game will be featured in the Ender’s Game Movie. Good News: the mouse is most likely going to be there! In an interview with Cinemablend‘s Kelly West (the same interview she quoted from when writing about the question of violence in the movie; see our earlier post HERE), writer/director Gavin Hood said:

We did motion capture, put on suits, ran around the room. They filmed it in a virtual world. Once you’ve captured that motion you can film what you captured digitally and then we handed that off to an amazing animation company in Barcelona, who’ve done the most beautiful work. Obviously, we did a lot of drawings and how’s it going to be? And drawings of the mouse and all those things, but it is a shorter version than in the book, because the whole story of the book is compressed into about a one year period.

The rest of the interview evolves around the adaptation of the book, including questions about how much of the book’s violence will be shown in the film, how Ender’s narrative voice is translated into the medium of film, and what a possible sequel will depend on. Read the entire article HERE!

In this clip from San Diego Comic Con, exclusively revealed by Yahoo Movies, Graff greets new students to battle school, introducing more of the before seen footage of the First/Second Invasion. Looks like they will indeed make the name and story of Mazer Rackham as important and ever present in the minds of the kids as it is in the books!

It’s a little weird that I was just writing another article speculating about Ender and Petra and then this pops up as well. What do you think is going on in this photo? Is this perhaps when Petra warns Ender that he’s in danger?

Since we’ve seen in the trailer that the kids train in these outfits, it’s safe to say that’s what they’re dressed in here. And hey look, Adidas survived the Formic Invasion!

    Ender-Petra

Thanks to a slideshow put up by Entertainment Weekly for their Comic Con 2013 preview, we’ve got a new look at Ender (Asa Butterfield, right) and Petra (Hailee Steinfeld, left) holding hands as they’re about to jump into the Battle Room.

The photo gives us a better look at the flash guns, as can be seen on Petra’s hip, but it also brings up an inevitable question: are Petra and Ender a “thing” in the movie?

In the book, Petra acts more like a tough older sister to Ender when he first joins Salamander Army under Bonzo. But Ender was around 7 or 8 at that point while in the book he’ll be around 10 or 11. When we first saw Petra in the trailer, she was giving a sly smile to Ender.

Now in this photo we see them holding hands as they get ready to go into the Battle Room, something that Ender has presumably already done himself because we’ve seen him in the Battle Room wearing launchy colors. So what do you guys think? Do Petra and Ender have a different type of connection in the film? And if they did, how do you feel about it?

Comic Con 2013 Schedule for Friday Released

    EG-Comic-Con

Comic Con International has released the schedule for Friday, July 19. While the attention may be focused on the star-studded panel scheduled for Thursday, there are two Ender’s Game related panels scheduled for Friday.

A panel for various professionals in the art department for films will take place from 12:30 to 1:30 in Room 24ABC and includes Ender’s Game art director Clint Wallace.

The Feature Film Art Department: The Art of Collaboration-and the Collaboration of Artists

How do as few as five – or as many as 50 – artists work together to create a coherent, believable world in which to stage the action of the modern motion picture? Members of the art department of Captain America: First Avenger discuss working on the film in Los Angeles while the film was shooting in London. Panelists include moderator and supervising art director John Dexter (also Pirates of the Caribbean 2 & 3), conceptual model maker Jeff Frost (Star Trek Into Darkness), lead vehicle designer Daniel Simon (Tron: Uprising), graphic designer Karen TenEyck (The Lone Ranger), and set designer and assistant art director Clint Wallace (Men in Black 3, Enders Game as art director).

Another panel in the same room will feature costume designers including Alan Villanueva from Ender’s Game.

    Welcome to the New Age

Top costume illustrators from the Costume Designers Guild IATSE Local 892 talk about their latest projects and the changing world of illustration in the digital and 3D age, followed by a Q&A. Featured panelists are Keith Christensen (Man of Steel, Star Wars 7, Tomorrowland), Phillip Boutte Jr. (Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Man of Steel), Constantine Sekeris (Star Trek, G.I. Joe: Retaliation), Alan Villanueva (Oz, the Great & Powerful, Enders Game, Defiance), and Christian Cordella (Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier, Oblivion, 300: Rise of an Empire). Moderated by author Peter Clines (Ex-Heros, Ex-Patriots).
