Steve Jablonsky: “Ender’s Game is Big But Also Very Personal”

    Steve-Jablonsky

Ender’s Game composer Steve Jablonsky has given a brief statment about his score for the film, out November 1 2013.

“Ender’s Game is big but also very personal, which is an interesting combination for any composer. For some scenes, I’m using an 80 piece orchestra and 32 member choir, while in other scenes I am using a simple solo instrument. Ender is a very isolated character for much of the film so I felt that a solo cello would play that isolation nicely and it became an important element in the score.”

VIDEO: Ender in Battle School Orientation

Last night at the MCM Expo Q&A event in London, several clips were shown including the trailer, Ender’s Army, and an exclusive clip that included snippets of the propaganda video shown at Comic Con in the Ender’s Game Experience “Welcome to Battle School”. The difference is, this clip is integrated into the movie itself, and we get to see Ender watch video of Mazer’s crucial battle at what is presumably Battle School orientation.

Thanks to @AP2HHC for the video!

VIDEO: Gavin Hood on Why ‘Ender’s Game’ Could Be Made

Gavin Hood spoke to HeyUGuys UK on what drew him to the project of Ender’s Game.

I am not per say, a sci fi fan, for me, I love the fact that this is a story that’s set in the future which allows us to explore ideas that the story deals with in a way that would be perhaps too uncomfortable to deal with if we explored them in the modern context. So for me it doesn’t really matter if a story is set in the future or set in ancient Greece or set on one continent or another. What matters is that the environment is a helpful, visual way of telling what is essentially a timeless universal story about characters interacting with each other. Human beings have evolved their technology, but emotionally, we haven’t evolved that much.

Listen to an Exclusive 90-Second Preview of Steve Jablonsky’s ‘Ender’s Game’ Score

    EndersGame

With Ender’s Game just over 28 days from release, the anticipation is building for longtime fans of the novel worldwide. The movie’s score, which was composed by Steve Jablonsky (Transformers), will be released on October 22, 2013 and contains a total of 21 tracks.

The nice folks over at Varese Sarabande sent over the score for me to listen to and I’ll admit, despite my claims to resist, I listened to it all night. I’ve managed to resist listening to the finale tracks so far, hopefully I can keep that up until I see the movie.

To give you a taste, I’ve been allowed to pick 90 seconds of music to preview from two tracks. The first 45 seconds comes from “Battle Room” and the latter 45 seconds is from “Dragons Win”. Be sure to listen to it and let us know what you think!

io9 Reveals 360° Tour of Dragon Army Barracks and Graff’s Office

    Graffs-Office

i09 is giving Launchies around the world a chance to take 360° tours of two Ender’s Game sets: the Dragon Army barracks and Graff’s office. We’ve seen Graff standing in his office and we know that behind that wall is the Battle Room, where Graff can watch battles. Funnily enough, it looks like there’s a doorway to a shaft right above his desk. Perfect for snoopy little Bean-like soldiers. 😉

    Dragon-Barracks

The Dragon Army barracks has DRAGON on the floor of the entryway, just like what we saw in the still MTV released yesterday of Ender and Petra entering Salamander’s barracks.

Thanks to @SpeedBrkr for the tip.

Update: We’ve embedded the tours below thanks to IF-BattleSchool.com.
