    Ender’s Game Cast Watch #4

Another week of me stalking the Ender’s Game cast on the nets has come to a close. Let’s see what the kids have been up to.

Asa Butterfield has been all kinds of busy. Let’s start with the picture that finally made him Instagram-famous (and I wonder why):

    4asa_boat20130704

Looks like that was the last day in Greece, before he had to return to London for his Prom!

    4asa_prom_20130705

Also, in preparation of his appearance at the Ender’s Game panel on Thursday, July 18, Asa went shopping at Carnaby Street, London. Will he wow you all with his fashion sense?

    4asa_fashion

Personally, I’m slightly flashed by the pattern mix. But I’m sure that’s just me.

Speaking of Comic Con, Aramis Knight has confirmed that he will be signing autographs! He even gave a tentative date! Watch out for him on Saturday at the Summit booth! After Jimmy Pinchak, Aramis is the second non-panelist announcing that he is going to SDCC, but Khylin Rhambo, Brandon Soo Hoo, Conor Carroll and Caleb Thaggard are rumored to be there as well.  While the kids are getting excited for the big event, Harrison Ford seems to have the time and leisure for a trip to Peru.

Hailee Steinfeld has been caught up in other projects. Nevertheless she had the time to tweet about her new magazine cover as well as an interview she did about her upcoming film Romeo and Juliet. Watch it below!

Moises Arias has a new film … or rather, a video. He appears in his friend Willow Smith’s new music video “Summer Fling”.

Finally, Suraj Partha seems to have a little less time for fun stuff this summer, as he is studying for his SAT! I’m sure he will ace it, though, just like he just aced his AP EURO class (according to his facebook). He did, however, have the time to post a video of himself singing and playing the piano in Paris. So romantic!

    Ender’s Game Cast Watch #3

I’m a bit late this week, but to be fair, there wasn’t that much to report about our young cast as far as social media announcements go – up until today, that is. Let’s have the good news first: Brandon Soo Hoo graduated High School. Congratulations, Brandon!

    brandonfacebookgrad#3

Also, Jimmy “Jax” Pinchak announced today via twitter that he will be joining castmates Asa Butterfield, Hailee Steinfeld, Abigail Breslin and Harrison Ford at Comic Con.

Meanwhile, Abigail Breslin – again breaking the record for most tweets per day –  has been alternating sleeping on the couch (due to a bugger infestation of her room, no less) and celebrating half-Christmas with glittery wintery images on Instagram, while Asa Butterfield has been relaxing with his family in beautiful, sunny Greece.

Aramis Knight, on the other hand, has made an effort to make the world a better place in this years annual “One Child At A Time Celebrity Basketball Game” on June 23. For him, and I’m sure for many of the spectators, it was a dream come true.

Finally, Khylin Rhambo has announced that he is changing his name. Personally, I welcome the change, as I’m never quite sure if I’m spelling “Rhambo” correctly.

    Ender’s Game Cast Watch #1

Since it’s been a pretty slow couple of days, I decided to stalk the Ender’s Game cast’s twitter and facebook accounts in the hopes of turning up some interesting tidbits. And guess what, the kids have been BUSY! Well, all except Asa Butterfield, who has apparently decided to spend the next week or so in front of his computer.

    asawhere

He did, however, hang out with Suraj Partha only a couple of days ago, when Suraj visited London on his trip to Europe. Hailee Steinfeld, on the other hand, stayed in the States to spend some days in Hollywood being honored by Max Mara.  And Moises Arias just returned from a week of roughin’ it in Cabo San Lucas.

Jimmy Pinchak was in New Jersey yesterday visiting Jenkinson’s Boardwalk. Meanwhile, Aramis Knight has been busy planning to participate in the “One Child At A Time”-Celebrity Basketball match coming up on June 23.

VIDEO: Khylin Rhambo and Aramis Knight React to the PSiO

Here’s a video of Khylin Rhambo (Dink) and Aramis Knight (Bean) doing a video review of the PSiO, which is a pair of audiovisual stimulation glasses that provide audio and color therapy.

Khylin and Aramis do mention Ender’s Game a bit, saying that there were some really emotional scenes that they had to do and that these glasses really would have helped them to get into character.

Unfortunately, these glasses cost $399, so unless PSiO wants to send a pair to a sci-fi movie fansite called EnderWiggin.net for review, I don’t think I’ll get to try them. *cough cough*

Aramis Knight (Bean), has signed on to do a pilot for NBC for a show called ‘Welcome to the Family’.

Sony Pictures Television’s “Family” details the comedic situations that ensue when an unplanned pregnancy brings together a white family and a Latino family.

Ender’s Game cast members Aramis Knight and Khy Rhambo attended an Oscars after party together tonight and posted photos on Instagram and Facebook.

For those of you that watched the show, what did you think? I thought it was the best Oscars production in years and Seth MacFarlane finally proved that hosts can actually make you laugh for real. Hopefully we’ll be watching next year’s ceremonies and be cheering Ender’s Game on for something!

Be sure to follow Aramis on Instagram (AramisKnight88) and like Khylin on Facebook.

  • Aramis Knight to Attend 2013 San Diego Comic Con

Aramis Knight to Attend 2013 San Diego Comic Con

Since Nancy Kirkpatrick, worldwide marketing president for Summit, said in an interview a couple of months ago that she would be turning her focus from Twilight to Ender’s Game, it’s safe to say that the company is planning a decent if not huge presence at this year’s San Diego Comic Con. The film will undoubtedly be a huge draw for attendees of the con and so it would make sense for a full trailer to be unveiled in Hall H.

Still, it’s all up in the air with regards to who from the cast will be attending. But thanks to Aramis Knight, we now know that we’ll at least be seeing Bean in attendance at this year’s con!

    Aramis-SDCC

The young actor tweeted yesterday that he’ll be at the next Con. Since professional badges for SDCC 2013 went on sale today, hopefully we’ll see more confirmations soon.

If you plan on attending SDCC for the first time this year, don’t forget that you must have a valid CCI Member ID before you can attempt to purchase a badge when the sale starts in early spring. To get your Member ID, click here.

Months before he headed off to New Orleans to film Ender’s Game, Aramis Knight (Bean) filmed a short scene with Anne Hathaway in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises. 18 screencaps of Aramis from this scene have been added to the EnderWiggin.net gallery.

Bean, Dink, Alai, Petra Wrap ‘Ender’s Game’

Four key characters wrapped production on Ender’s Game this week including Hailee Steinfeld (Petra, wrapped last week), Aramis Knight (Bean), Suraj Partha (Alai), and Khy Rhambo (Dink). The cast attended a wrap party last week Saturday and today began tweeting about their filming coming to a conclusion.

Update: Conor Carroll (Bernard) wrapped today as well.

Asa Butterfield tweeted his goodbye to the three young men and Hailee Steinfeld sent a congratulatory tweet their way.

Production is winding down, but doesn’t appear to be over just yet, as actor Jimmy Pinchak (Peter Wiggin) is back in New Orleans for filming and Asa hasn’t tweeted that he’s wrapped on filming himself. Filming was originally scheduled to end on June 8.

  • Can Teenager Asa Butterfield Play a Young Ender?

Can Teenager Asa Butterfield Play a Young Ender?

It’s already been made clear by early casting calls for the film adaptation of Ender’s Game that Ender has been aged up from 5 to 10.

Obviously, finding the right five year-old actor to portray the child genius Andrew could have kept the movie in limbo for yet another 20 years no matter how strong the script, so aging him up is an understandable change to a science fiction classic that has been a favorite of readers for decades.

Asa ButterfieldStill, when it was announced that Asa Butterfield had been offered the key role, I have to admit I had reservations. Sure, he looked the part of an older Ender, but could he play the younger Ender as well?

Pictured right, Butterfield looks like a teenager. It’s moderately difficult to see how this young man could pull off being so young. Past pivotal young male roles were cast pretty close to their character’s ages. Haley Joel Osment was 10 when he filmed The Sixth Sense and his character was 9 years old. Macaulay Culkin was 9 when he played 8 year-old Kevin McCallister. Butterfield looked very young in Hugo, but his character was twelve years old.

Fourteen years old when he was cast and just recently turned fifteen this April, could Asa Butterfield be made to look like he is a young 10 year-old boy? Photos posted to Twitter today seem to support that the answer to that is a convincing yes.

    Asa Butterfield and Aramis Knight

This photo was posted by Asa Butterfield (left) and Aramis Knight (Bean, right) today and Asa does look a lot younger with his military hairstyle, though it could be the angle and camera filter playing tricks on the eyes. It could just be the expression on his face.

What do you think, folks? Does he look like he can pull off 10 years old? After seeing the photos posted today, my reservations have definitely begun to fade away.

Hopefully we’ll get a real photo of Ender soon. Everyone cross your fingers for next week!

    Space Camp

The production blog for Ender’s Game, which seems to be operating on a weekly Wednesday posting, put up a new photo of the cast in a simulator while attending Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama.

“Houston, we have a problem.  We don’t know how to land the Shuttle.” Good thing it’s just a simulator safely on the ground at SPACE CAMP in Huntsville, Alabama.  Aramis, Moises, Asa & Suraj (pictured above from a monitor in the MISSION CONTROL ROOM ) and the rest of our cast agreed that to do Ender’s Game right, they had to train as though they were really headed into ZERO G.  And this wasn’t just an afternoon spent taking a vanity tour. From the Manned Maneuvering Unit (MMU), which simulates extra-vehicular shuttle missions in Earth’s orbit, to the microgravity training chair that prepared astronauts for moonwalks during the Apollo program, the week at Space Camp was genuine prep for the feeling of reality that this movie deserves. And after all, the army that trains together stays together.

  • Meet Aramis Knight AKA Bean

    Meet Aramis Knight AKA Bean

Aramis KnightWhile Ender’s Game features a wide cast of known child actors including Asa Butterfield (Ender), Abigail Breslin (Valentine), and Hailee Steinfeld (Petra), one of the most important of those characters is Bean, who will be played by 12 year-old Aramis Knight.

Knight first began acting when he was six years old, when he had a small part in the pilot episode of ABC’s alien drama series Invasion in 2005. Since then, he’s done a lot of acting in television, appearing in shows such as NCIS, Ghost Whisperer, Dexter, and even an episode of LOST as Sam, Sayid’s nephew. (video below)

Interestingly enough, Knight has already worked with mega star Harrison Ford, who is set to play Colonel Graff, the leader of the Battle School, in the movie Crossing Over.

With such a lengthy resume behind him, he seems to be big enough to fill the shoes of little genius Bean. He’s described as being 4’10”, which doesn’t really lend much to the fact that he’s supposed to be extremely small (thus the name “Bean”), but a lot could be done to make him look smaller on screen. Does he look like the Bean you’ve imagined?

View his demo reel on IMDB or watch this video of him in LOST, season 6:
